WASHINGTON – The ongoing government shutdown is beginning to strain police departments and safety programs across the country.
While essential law enforcement officers remain on duty, federal grants that fund training, technology and safety initiatives are now on hold.
College campuses are already feeling the effects.
Delays in campus safety upgrades, joint emergency training, and crime-prevention programs are possible, as many initiatives rely on federal support.
University officials say student safety is not in immediate danger, but continued budget pressures could limit future programs and slow response times.
